What Is Democracy?
There's an argument that there's either a cultural or sort of genetic basis to these things that go before Christianity. So the first thing to realize is that these kind of councils in which members of different subgroups of some larger community say a tribe come together to make decision making can be found all around the world. People seem to think if you don't have autocracy, then you have democracy. But they're still built on a logic of kinship networks and essentialized descent rather than individuals.
