The Secret Life of Lucille Ball
I invented this affair, I think, because my grandfather was sort of interesting figure in my family. Everyone loved him and forgave him for all the stuff he did. But he left my grandmother. And so she for the last 40 years of her life, almost never left the house. He was such a charming guy in a way that no one blamed him. It was sort of weird. And I wanted to examine that. In writing the book, I realized that my grandmother was sort of the secret hero of the story. So only by writing it,did I sort of come to terms with my own family history... but I wanted to just tell a good story as well.
