In 1954 rutan opened musquite, a craft and fashion house. It became known around the world as the israeli style. In 19 77 she started a far left jewish arab party called shelley that won two seats in the knesset. She was an activist in anti occupation groups like yestin and beselem. As an honorific she was on every list for the merits party ever ran somewhere between the one hundredth and 100 twentieth spot. The elections next month will be the first in over forty years when rutan is not an official candidate.
