Turning to the Mystics with James Finley
In the Waters, Even if We Burn to Death, the Water Is Trustworthy
In the midst of this world there is this rootedness that god is the presence that protects us from nothing, even as god, unexplainably sustains us in all things. Even if a stranger carries us off to do terrible things to us, the stranger remains a deeply confused member of the human family. And and we live by this as true spiritual maturity. As a final image, imagine you're in a big boat, and you're crossing a vast expanse of water. It doesn't matter where they come find you, or you are drowned. This is what makes life unexplainably trustworthy; it's what makes death unexplainably trustable.
