Women's Filmmaking in the Early 1920s

Lois Weber was making her films during a particularly turbulent time in the US. There was World War I, which sent nearly three million men into the US army. Women quickly stepped into the labor force and intensified their political activism. After this period that I've described of incredible opportunity and incredible success for female filmmakers there is a real shift in the early 1920s. The change is really fast and really decisive.
