Edith reflects the desire to become British to be more British than the British. She wouldn't eat foreign food, if I would make her Romanian food she would turn it away because it wasn't British. So there's this constant desire to be British to not be associated with the immigrant Yiddish Eastern past but to be completely assimilated. That fine line between anti-Semitism and also belonging to the enemy nation is very important in the play.
