Religion in china is treated as almost like another religion. Christianity and islam have gotten a lot of pushback, i think. The government's idea of confucianism is basically the part about obeying your superiors. You can see your place of worship get shut down if you are trying to practise that outside of christianity or buddhism. But if you're trying to practise any type of non-christian faith then it will not be tolerated by the state.
