Between 10 and 15% of the population have addiction problems. This means that each GP with an average list of 2,300 patients will have something in the order of 300 addicts to look after. An average GP will see four new cancers a year but we'll have 300 addicts. It's very important for us to be able to define what addiction really is. We're doing work that we're not trained to do and we have no understanding of.
