CHAPTER

When I Shall Die, Ah, Take Romeo and Cut Him Out in Little Ars

Hellen Haggart talks about her favourite passage in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. She says the line 'when i shall die, take romeo and cut him out' has become emblematic of the play. It is a term used by juliet to anticipate sexual ecstasy she will feel when they spend their first night together. And through this rapturous language that she gets, shakespeare enables her to express a love which is at once very sexual, it's very sensual and physical, but it's also spiritual and transcendent fused together.
