Your obligation is to help protect the business owner and to give them the best advice. If you need to go over that marketing director's head, as long as you have a relationship with the business owner, fucking do it. You're almost like a fiduciary, like your obligation, third party. And if what you say ends up coming to pass, he might hit you up in the future and be like "You know what? I would like to work with you again"
