The Importance of Social Security
If you think of it as an investment, which from our perspective is taxpayers, that's exactly the way we should be looking at it. For the typical American, the rate of return on social security is around 1%, maybe 2%. That's the average American. If you're a male, it's a little bit lower. If you are African American, it's substantially lower. The government imposes a 100% death tax on social security benefits.
