An important role that economists can play in the world, is to suggest to people deals they can make. And standard economic tools of welfare analysis are exactly well suited to suggest deals that they might all be willing toadopt. So i have to take any one person's degree of altruism as given. I have to say, this person cares about other people a lot, that person doesn't. and then suggest what deals would be.
