The Challenges of Satellites
In 1962, the first TV broadcast was relayed from Europe to America via space. That broadcast traveled through a satellite known as Telstar 1. At its launch vehicle, the Thor-Able rocket was partly derived from earlier ballistic missiles. These early probes would set the stage for more advanced communication satellites.
