Rome's Transformation From Republic to Empire
Following caesar's conquest of gaul, the territory was thoroughly romanized. Roman culture soon replaced the native celtic traditions and languages there. After caesar's assassination, a civil war ensued, with mark antony briefly emerging as the leader of rome. But fortune soon turned against him and his wife, the egyptian queen, cleopatra. And in 31 b c, their forces were defeated by those of the grand nephew and adopted son of caesar, octavian. His reforms were actually very successful in bringing about peace and prosperity to the empire.
