Yemen is at the tip of the Arabian Peninsula. Yemen controls Bab al-Mendib Strait, where world shipping goes through. Saudi Arabia had their goals are to maintain whatever system of government is works for them and keep Sana'a in place. They were thrown off by the fact that Sana'a headed up working with the Houthis.
