I think that often like the type of trading that I do is I have a preference for sort of simulation based trading. So if you can build a simulator to at least approximate how the actual exchange you think works with some assumptions, then you can sort of codify the trades that you would do and play them through the simulator. And your simulator is going to tell you what the performance of that set of signals is on that day's worth of data. To be able to first tell if like the idea of a trade is okay, you can get by with just some kind of like if statements and conditional logic and stuff like that.
