The sun is slowly losing mass through solar wind. As it gets lighter, the speed with which we are in our orbit is too fast to maintain that orbit and it goes to a higher orbit. And the sun will lose mass at an ever faster rate as the billions of years unfold. We'll end up orbiting farther and farther away. The solar system is a cruel, cruel mistress. It's crazy.
