The verbal system in Greek is very complex. It's the verbal system where Greek morphology really goes completely bonkers. There are a bunch of different decluncheons. If any of these verbs start with vowels, and you try to reduplicate them, then all sorts of inchiness can happen. And the future stem seems to be a newcomer to the system - it's just a suffix.
