Young Caesar vs Marc Antony

The Ancients

What Happens When a Young Caesar Is Assassinated?

When caesar was assassinated, octavian was actually in greece. He and mark antony are both perceived of as being what we might call caesarians - followers or supporters of caesar. In forty three, he's meant to go out to govern the province of macedonia but decides that he would rather perhaps be closer to italy. And so we have antony and octavian in conflict. It is perhaps convenient that those two consuls or forty three, hertius and panza, both die in the conflict,. which allows young caesar, who is only, by this point about 20 years old, to become consul.
