Gregory the Great's Love for Sicily

Sicily was important to Roman life at the time because Sicily was the bread basket of Rome. It had a Greek culture early on and it seems to have considered itself to be more Greek than Latin through the time of the fathers. A lot of the popes were taken from Sicily for that reason, you know, they were Sicilians. They also had some understanding of Rome as well.
