David Wheeler: I think that digital cash was really solved in the 1980s by David Chom. He says it wasn't Satoshi who invented proof of work, but he did invent the difficulty adjustment. Wheeler: Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer alternative to traditional currencies like gold or paper money. It's very close to these pieces of software and they have digital cash and work with computers even though they're not calculable.
