Introduction
In 1950 only 73 occupations were licensed in one or more states. Only 20 years later, this number had increased to 500. In California, which perhaps not surprisingly is the leading regulator, it licenses more than 175 job categories. Missouri and Washington have respectively 41 and 53 job categories licensed. It's unlikely that legislators Missouri care less about consumers than legislators in California.
