What Should We Know Before We Hear Your Poem?

One of the students i've had is an incredible success story. He came from a one woman working household. It was just a situation where every statistic says he will not make it. Being able to write and articulate himself beyond his situation, is something that am we really aim to do. So it's not always easy. Sometimes it feels like shooting in the dark.
