The Importance of Central Lines in Neurologic Cases

I have a preference against using central lines in neurologic cases because it leaves us with bad options. We prefer not to use necklines because they can reduce venous drainage, which can have unfortunate effects on the surgical fields. A femoral line of course is safer but runs the risk of post-operative infection. While there's a potential for substantial blood loss, it's not equivalent to doing a liver resection or a big trauma. These are not large vessels and we're not talking about exposing large bleeding areas.
