The CEA's Proposal Supports the Bitcoin Mining Industry
The White House has proposed a federal tax on Bitcoin mining. The CEA said it was justified because crypto mining does not generate the local and national economic benefits typically associated with businesses using similar amounts of electricity. An anonymous economist from the CEA said, quote, where we see the strains emerging are in these places that are drawing off the grid. It would need to pass through Congress before being enacted; this seems highly unlikely.
