The late sixties and early seventies were the height of the hippie and drug culture in the United States. Most of the climbers, whether they did drugs or not, looked like hippies, at least in the Rangers eyes. It was easy to confuse, you know, they all looked the same, so we treated them all the same. And that was a big mistake.
