Bruce Schneier: Listening skills are central to thinking about effective therapists. He says it's the biggest effect size in 70 years of psychotherapy research. "If you're going to pick your therapist based on one characteristic, this is not a bad one to pay attention to," he says. The data for listening skills is reasonably good, but certainly not as good and as robust as that for empathy.
