The Story of Reginald Denny
After police pulled out of Normandy in Florence, a growing mob beat and robbed unsuspecting motorists as they crossed through the intersection. A few young men directed traffic, allowing black people to proceed unharmed while all others became targets from the crowd. Most of the early victims of the mob were Latinos and Asian Americans. Zoey Tur captured the brutal scene and broadcast it live to television viewers around the nation and beyond.
