Over the past 30 to 40 years, provision of genuine public goods by government hasn't increased at all. Almost allth the growth of government has been in fiscal transfer. So that doesn't explain why there's supposedly so much more rent seeking now. One argument might be that as we become richer is a society, and as more resources are sucked in to government,. it becomes a bit easier to to rentsek.
