What Is the Greek Word for the Second Rock?
The obvious reference of the word petra is to peter. In aromaicth we wouldn't have had two words. We would have had just one. And so he uses two words that are so tually identical, petros and petra, that it allows him to preserve the pun. If matthew wanted to say no more than peter was a stone, in contrast with jesus the rock, the more common word would have been lithos,. then there would have been no pun.
