The Importance of Memory in Trauma

When it comes to trauma memory, what's really different about trauma is that, and this is part of the process of EMDR certainly, is that memory is often really fragmented, unordered. So you may not remember the sensations in the body necessarily. It won't hold us the same emotional valence or intensity that a negative memory will hold. And so that really highlights what's happening in the brain at that time of the experience of trauma.
