The Flexibility of the Family
The family is an institution that often changes in relation to climactic, geographic, economic and social circumstances. We know that humans like pair bonding, but we also know that humans have often raised their children in much wider networks of care and cooperation. So I want to think about expanding our notions of family specifically to include very different ways of imagining the relationship between our mating practices and our childrearing practices.
