Timothy Stanley: One of the big differences is if you buy stock in a public company, you can sell it tomorrow and get your money back. He says when you buyStock in a private company, you are probably holding on to it until IPOs and goes public or until another company buys it. Stanley: If you invest in the first year or two, that stock is on your balance sheet and illiquid for a decade.
