The History of the French Parliaments

Aristocratic privilege may not have been curtailed, but aristocratic power was matthews states the regency of orleans. Louis the fifteenth disinterest in state affairs helped a new generation of nobles remember the good old days where they had had much more power and influence within the french state. With an unpopular monarch on the throne, some in the nobility decided the time was ripe for a coordinated effort to reclaim their lost power and prestige. The charge against the crown was led by the parliaments which tried to install themselves as a check on the monarch's absolute power. A genie was let loose out of its bottle, and that genie is the establishment of public opinion today.
