The socratic method combines the sort of calling on students, and especially students who wouldn't necessarily be so inclined to raise their hands. It's interesting to sort of resinates with me. Im an i rupan family, where being loud and argumentative was probably prized. But i also grew up in germany, in an educational system that was reasonably deferential towards teachers. Some of the criticisms against this method is that its somehow being cast as hierarchical or as putting down students.
