Make sure you've got a good set of vital signs. We may not think to ask about alcohol or substance use in our older patients. Maybe it's a therapeutic misadventure. They were taking acetaminophen or solacellates for their joint pain and now they've developed delirium. And finally, any other causes, things like pain or even urinary or fecal retention could be the cause.
