At that point, I had left nonprofit after 15 years and I was working for a startup. And so when things started showing up as offers to write, I took them. The first person to reach out was Jessica Hopper at Pitchfork. She is so great in so many ways. But one of the things that makes her great is that she's always looking for different kinds of voices.
