The Porous Nature of Technology
The invention of recorded sound dates back to the 1880s. As technology develops, a variety of market uses come into focus. Inventors imagined technologies like the detector phone which was essentially a microphone connected to a long wire and a speaker on the other hand. They could listen to their patients or even insane asylums. It's an interesting metaphor you use porous, because it's funny when new technologies come along like the telegraph. There is a seepage into other areas, like obviously criminal things.
