Williams tells us that in 1822, young Professor D was taken to an abandoned brickyard where he witnessed the following: " orgies were becoming frightful" The author goes on to describe a baccanelyan feast washed down with large quantities of wine. She also punctuates the whole description with reminders that all of this is very sinful and the participants are quite evil. Finally, we're told that if I have ever realized a sense of the real visible presence of his majesty, the devil, it was that night I spent among his voodoo worshipers."
