The Supreme Court invalidated both Harvard and the University of North Carolina's affirmative action programs on the grounds that they illegally discriminate on the basis of race. The 6-3 opinion was written by Chief Justice John Roberts with concurrences from Justice Sotomayor and Justice Jackson.
