Gnosticism and the Mystery Cults
Do we have a sense of how widespread Gnosticism was in the ancient world? It's hard to say. There are mystery cults, meaning that they were secret cults and they kept their secrets so we don't know. And it may simply be that if you found it to be ridiculous, then you weren't a Gnostic. If you understood it, then okay, you're one of us.
