The iphone is not actually the first smart phone to ever be out there, but it comes to kind of shape what smart phones look like. The multi touch screen came from wayn westerman's finger works and john harper worked on corps animation team. i do think those three sort of elements are really what set the table for the success. I also point out in the book that the success did not actually come in any meaningful a way.
