Founders

CHAPTER

Steve Jobs's Disliking Formality

Despite declining to receive a salary, Steve was an expensive, unproven bet. From $450 million of Apple's $816 million loss for 1997 could be attributed to the acquisition of Next and to the purchase and liquidation of power computing. One way to understand that number is to realize that Apple had paid out more than half a billion dollars for two acquisitions whose assets value mere months after the deal were concluded to be just one fifth of that number. At the time Steve comes back, the market cap of Apple's like five or seven billion; fast forward to day it's over 900 billion.
