The Glory of Science
The glory of science is that people got themselves and their immediate interests out of the way before they looked at the world. So for example, there was no immediate benefit from proving a heliocentric versus a geocentric theory of the solar system. And if wou think about the history of the mechanics that unfolded from that, from the scientific revolution, through e kepler, galileo newton,. all these great massive achievements of science were quite independent of any immediate benefit. They are because subjective and immediate interests and moral concerns are pushed to one side.
