Plutarch's Take on Lysander and Sulla

Plutarch says a general should die like a general and not like a targeteer. In Sulla's case, however, it is no easy matter even to enumerate the pitched battles which he won,. Rome itself captured twice, and he took the Piraeus of Athens by series of great battles after he had driven Arkelaus from the land to the sea. Alsibites would have been a match for Mithridates, probably, or just about anyone, if he had forces at his command.
