The Importance of a Phase Transition in Cosmology

I think that whatever the fate of Polyneal cyclic cosmology, their particular hypothesis, I think they're right. Whether inflation is true or not, it's a very improbable universe. Why this universe? Why not other universes, which would be more typical given what we understand about the laws? So this is the initial conditions problem again. And where my recent thinking comes in and is relevant is an argument that we can't address those kind of questions on the basis of the same kind of methodology that worked so far.
