The Importance of Parenting in Art and Design
Both of my kids are filmmakers. My daughter went to Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and she works for Nickelodeon now. And my son graduated from RISD. He's a film editor. I was super conscious of how many kids in programs of art and design aren't seen, heard, appreciated or supported by their parents. It never occurred to me to not be that parent who's at freshman orientation...I hear these stories all the time about parents who encourage children in other career directions.
