Emmet Till and Mamie Till Mobley National Monument
Emmet Till would have celebrated his 82nd birthday this past Tuesday July 25th. In 1955 Emmet a 14 year old black boy was kidnapped and lynched by two white men after a white woman accused him of harassment at a grocery store in Mississippi. On Emmet's birthday this week President Biden announced the Emmet Till and Mamie Till Mobley National Monument to honor the legacies of Emmet Till and his mother. The monument will include three protected sites one in Illinois where he was born and where his funeral was held and the other two in Mississippi where he was murdered.
