The Rise and Fall of Hataiyama Kazuo
Shinigawa used his powerful position as Home Minister to institute a massive crackdown on those parties. He directed the police to investigate the parties on trumped up bribery and corruption charges. Because of his brazen actions, Shinigawa would be forced to resign in disgrace after the election. Hataiyama Kazuo was also very influential in one of the big political shake-ups of the late 1890s.
