The Case of James Donley
The Daunanley family came to Canada from Ireland in the 1840s. James Donley, an Irish Catholic farmer, fought back against a fellow who he thought was trying to take advantage of him. The two men squared off at a logging beat where they would clear their land and drink heavily. When one man picked up a hand spike, Donley cracked his head with it but didn't kill him. He eluded authorities for a year before turning himself into police.
